Having executed a search warrant in February 2018, there have been revelations that the employees at Australian Bureau of meteorology could have been engaged in mining of Cryptocurrencies to include Bitcoins in their workplace.

The incidence came up upon the raid by the federal police at the bureau’s headquarters in Melbourne after being notified of the same.

According to a news report by ABC News, there were 2 persons who were held for interrogation by the AFP after the claims emerged of mining cryptocurrencies and whom were workers at the Bureau of meteorology

According to Chris Berg, there could be a possibility that they were trying to make use of the meteorological computers because they are believed to be very fast computers hence having a higher efficiency.

There could also be a possibility that they want to get their electricity bills settled by the Metereological Bureau having in mind that the mining is an electric-intensive affairs hence they would have probably want to abscond with the associated costs

Besides having no legal clause that prohibits the use of the government’s resources for mining, the intentions to use the government resources illegally could be an enough ground to help clamp the perpetrators.
